Lutheran Care’s doors were opened in South Australia in 1969 by a group of pioneering Lutheran women who were champions of advocacy and equality, serving the needs and fighting for the rights of those who had ‘fallen through the cracks of the system’.
Today, they are a modern and dynamic community services organisation, operating more than 50 programs, support services and Op Shops from 23 sites across South Australia. Since 2009, Lutheran Care have also been supporting Alice Springs and providing outreach services to 28 remote Aboriginal communities across Central Australia.
What drives them, are their promises to support the vulnerable, live by their value of ‘inclusivity’ and engage local communities in decision-making processes and program implementation. Lutheran Care actively seek to reduce systemic barriers and encourage inclusion and participation in the community for all people, regardless of their background, abilities, race, gender, life stage, belief systems or socioeconomic status.
Lutheran Care deliver a broad range of programs and services across SA and NT that aim to provide immediate support and dignity to people in crisis as well as information, strategies and connections to empower people to make positive changes in their own lives for the long term, including:-
